Why Winter Garden Is One of the Best Places to Live in Central Florida — A Local View From Alan LaFrance

Charming, historic, lively, and full of hometown pride — Winter Garden has become one of my favorite places to enjoy and introduce to buyers.

When people talk about “Florida charm,” they often picture the beaches. But what many don’t realize is that some of the most special communities in Central Florida aren’t on the coast at all — they’re right here, just minutes from Orlando. And Winter Garden is one of the brightest gems in the area.

Whether I’m meeting clients downtown, walking the West Orange Trail, or stopping by one of the weekend events, Winter Garden has that small-town warmth blended perfectly with modern living. It’s vibrant, welcoming, and full of life.

Let me share what makes Winter Garden so special.

🏡 A True Hometown Feel With Historic Charm

Downtown Winter Garden looks like a postcard — brick-lined streets, historic buildings, local shops, family-owned restaurants, cafés, and live music drifting out of outdoor patios.

It’s the kind of place where:

• People actually know their neighbors

• Weekends are always buzzing

• You can walk everywhere

• Families pour into town for festivals, markets, and sunsets

For many of my buyers looking for something with character (especially those moving from up north), Winter Garden checks every box: charm, community, convenience, and beauty.

🎉 Events That Bring the Community Together All Year

Winter Garden has an event calendar that rivals any major city — but with a hometown spirit that feels warm and personal. There’s always something happening, and that’s one of the reasons this community stays so active and connected.

🌸 Spring & Summer Events

• Spring Fever in the Garden – A huge garden festival that takes over downtown

• Summer Fridays with music, vendors, and outdoor dining

• Live music weekends throughout downtown

Alan and I especially enjoy the music festivals Winter Garden hosts. Stages go up, Plant Street fills with people, and you can walk, listen to bands, grab something to eat, and soak in the atmosphere. It’s one of those experiences that reminds you why small-town events feel so special.

🍂 Fall Favorites

• Winter Garden Fall Festival

• Halloween on Plant Street – Families LOVE this one

• Seasonal farmer’s market themes

• Outdoor movies and themed nights

❄️ Winter Magic

In winter, Winter Garden becomes a holiday postcard:

• Light Up Winter Garden – One of the most beautiful tree-lighting events in the area

• Holiday Market

• Horse-drawn carriage rides

• Decorated storefronts, lights, music, hot cocoa, and a warm small-town glow

This town celebrates every season — and I love being part of it.

🇺🇸 Veterans Park — A Beautiful Place of Honor

One of the places that makes Winter Garden truly special is Veterans Park.

It’s peaceful, meaningful, and beautifully maintained — a place dedicated to honoring those who have served our country. Families visit, ceremonies are held, and it offers a quiet space to reflect.

As someone who often speaks about honoring veterans in my blogs and posts, this park resonates with me in a deep way. It adds heart and pride to the community, reminding everyone that Winter Garden isn’t just lively — it’s respectful, patriotic, and grounded.

🏓 Pickleball — A Big Part of the Winter Garden Lifestyle

Winter Garden has become a hot spot for pickleball lovers! The courts stay busy, active, and full of energy. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, the pickleball community here is fun, social, and welcoming.

For many of my buyers — especially those relocating or retiring — pickleball is a huge draw. Winter Garden offers multiple courts, organized games, and meet-ups. It’s one more way people instantly feel connected when they move here.

☕ Food, Coffee, Dining & Everyday Living

Winter Garden has a surprisingly rich dining scene for a town this size. A few standout favorites locals love:

• The Chef’s Table – One of the best fine dining spots in Central Florida

• Plant Street Market – A foodie paradise with vendors, craft beer, desserts & more

• Axum Coffee – A local staple

• Three Birds – Great food and atmosphere

• Rosallie Le French Café – A cozy, delicious must-stop spot

The mix of walkable dining and outdoor seating gives Winter Garden that inviting, slow-down-and-enjoy-life feel.

🌳 West Orange Trail — A Signature Feature

Whether I’m walking, biking, or just enjoying a gorgeous Florida day, the West Orange Trail is one of my favorite outdoor features. It runs right through downtown and stretches for miles in both directions.

You’ll see families, joggers, cyclists, and lots of happy dogs — it’s active, vibrant, and safe.

Alan likes the town of Winter Garden with Horizon West in its outskirts. The downtown area looks like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting, you see moms with baby strollers, kids on their bikes, retired playing a game of chess in the park while food galore being served on tables like a French portrait. In the Spring under the Florida Sun from 11 am until 10 pm are 3 musical bands playing in the middle of the square that has been closed off for the Winter Garden music festival a really nice family friendly venu that everyone in all of Orlando look forward to going to.
