Why So Many People Are Falling in Love With Winter Garden, Florida
Winter Garden began as a small agricultural town in the late 1800s, built on thriving citrus groves and convenient rail access to Orlando and beyond. Officially incorporated as a city in 1908, it quickly became a hub for citrus and vegetable farming along the shores of Lake Apopka.
Fast forward to today, and Winter Garden has transformed into one of the fastest-growing communities in West Orange County. The city’s population has more than tripled since 2000, with much of the housing boom occurring in just the last two decades—over 60% of homes were built after 2000, thanks to master-planned communities and new-build neighborhoods throughout the 34787 zip code.
One of the biggest reasons buyers love Winter Garden is its location. Just west of Orlando, the city borders Disney property on its southern side. Many neighborhoods are only about 13 miles—or a 15 to 20-minute drive—from Walt Disney World. It’s close enough to enjoy the magic often, yet far enough to maintain a charming small-town feel at home.
Downtown Winter Garden is where the city truly shines. Brick-paved streets, the West Orange Trail, local cafés and breweries, and historic buildings create a quaint, walkable vibe that’s hard to find in newer suburbs. Every Saturday, the award-winning Winter Garden Farmers Market fills the downtown pavilion with fresh produce, local food, plants, and artisan vendors.
There’s always something happening here:
• Weekly live music at Fridays on the Plaza in Centennial Plaza
• The year-round Winter Garden Farmers Market every Saturday
• Seasonal and holiday events, plus headline attractions like the Winter Garden Music Festival—an all-day outdoor celebration with multiple stages right in the heart of downtown
Between its vibrant event calendar, new-construction communities, established tree-lined streets, and quick access to Disney, Winter Garden has become the perfect sweet spot for buyers who want it all: small-town charm, modern homes, and world-class entertainment just minutes away.
